Trojans pull away late versus rival Gators

The South Trojans beat the North Gators 34-26 at South Middle School Thursday in a continuation of the rivalry between the two county schools.
The teams were separated by only a single point after each of the first three quarters with the Trojans pulling away in the final period to get the victory.
Both offense got off to relatively slow starts with the Trojans staking themselves to a slight early lead. Brennan Taylor scored four of South’s six points in the first quarter.
South led 6-5 after one quarter.
The teams continued to match each other nearly point-for-point with a pair of 3-pointers by Levi Lindsey helping to keep the Trojans in front by the end of the half.
South led 14-13 at halftime.
The Gators flipped the scoreboard in the third quarter as they were able to take a narrow 20-19 advantage into the fourth quarter.
However, the Trojans put together their best offensive period to end the game as they outpaced the Gators in the fourth quarter to win by eight. Colson Kelley scored four of North’s six points in the fourth quarter.
Brennan Taylor led the Trojans with 10 points for the game, followed by William Money with seven points and Lindsey and Odeviyon Poe with six points each.
Kaveon Sutton scored four points and Cameron Denton scored one.
The Gators were led in scoring by Colson Kelley and Grant Parkerson with nine points each, followed by Connor Parker with four points and Zae Taylor with three.
Connor Worley scored one point.
With the win, the Trojans improved to 1-1 on the season.
They will next play Monday at Warren County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
With the loss, the Gators started the year with a record of 0-1.
