Trojans drop road contest to Warren County

The South Middle School Trojans lost to the Warren County Pioneers 59-24 on the road Monday for their second loss of the season.

A majority of the deficit was created in the first half as the Trojans were outpaced by the hosting Pioneers to move their record for the season below .500.

Both teams had their highest-scoring periods to begin the game as the Trojans quickly found themselves trailing by double digits. Kaveon Sutton scored five of South’s nine points in the first quarter.

They trailed 23-9 after one quarter.

The Trojans lost more ground in the second quarter as the deficit grew to more than 20 points before the end of the half.

They trailed 37-15 at halftime.

A 3-point play by Odeviyon Poe gave the Trojans their only points of the third quarter with the Pioneers pushing their lead past 30 in the period.

South trailed 53-18 going into the final period.

The deficit remained steady in the fourth quarter as the Trojans lost by a final margin of 35 points.

Sutton led the Trojans with 11 points for the game, followed by William Money with four points and Poe with three.

Jacoba Fells, LA Fitzgerald and Cameron Denton scored two points each.

With the loss, the Trojans moved to 1-2 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at home against East Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
