Gatorettes outpace Highland Rim for road victory

The North Middle School Gatorettes beat the Highland Rim Lady Hornets 33-16 on the road Thursday for their second win of the season.
The Gatorettes outscored their opponent in each quarter and fully pulled away in the second half to bring their early record for the season back above .500.
The Gatorettes allowed just two points in the opening period as they were able to take a slight lead early in the day.
They led 5-2 after one quarter.
The Gatorettes added a few more points to their advantage in the second quarter with the Lady Hornets remaining just a few steps behind. Shekinah Miller scored four of North’s six points in the second quarter.
North led 11-6 at halftime.
The Gatorettes doubled their point total in the third quarter as they brought their lead up to double digits in the period.
They led 22-10 going into the final period.
The Gatorettes remained in firm control throughout the fourth quarter as they continued to add to their lead and went on to win by 17 points.
Miller led the Gatorettes with eight points for the game, followed by Macie Davis and Allie Burnette with seven points each.
Vivian Baggett scored four points, Airiana Hill, Keira Turner and Isabella Gilliam scored two points each, and Shayla Burnette scored one point.
With the win, the Gatorettes improved to 2-1 on the season.
They will next play Monday at home against Harris Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
