Middle school Lady Hornets falter in second half at South Lincoln

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the South Lincoln Lady Eagles 36-20 on the road Monday for their third loss of the season.
After a close first half, the Lady Eagles pulled away in the second half to give the Lady Hornets a decisive loss in the road matchup.
A 10-2 run by the Lady Eagles midway through the opening period gave them an early edge over the Lady Hornets.
Huntland trailed 11-7 after one quarter.
Abbey Mason scored all four points for the Lady Hornets in the second quarter as they made up a little bit of ground early in the game.
They trailed 13-11 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets briefly tied the game at 13-13 early in the third quarter on a shot by Millie Walker, but the Lady Eagles proceeded to score the game’s next eight points and eventually took a double-digit lead late in the period.
Huntland trailed 27-15 going into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Hornets weren’t able to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter as they ultimately took a loss by 16 points.
Abbey Mason led the Lady Hornets with 10 points for the game, followed by Catara Johnson with five points and Loralie Mason with three.
Walker scored two points.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 3-3 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at Moore County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
