JOHN HENDON JR.
HENDON, John Wesley Lynn, Jr., age 63, of Estill Springs, Tennessee, departed this life suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital. Mr. Hendon was born in Manchester, Tennessee, on Oct. 15, 1960, to the late John Wesley and Willie Pauline Hendon. After graduating from high school, Mr. Hendon fulfilled his call to duty by joining the Army National Guard. He served with the unit in Winchester where he retired after 22 years. He was employed for 13 years at the former Lanier Clothing in Decherd and then with Tepro in Winchester for 30 years before his retirement. Mr. Hendon was a member of the South Jackson Church of Christ in Tullahoma. He loved fishing, hunting, cooking and grilling. He will be remembered as a hard-working, fun-loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and cousin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Natasha Greer Holman; sisters, Joann Simmons and Mae Sue Tarrant; and brother, James Hendon. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Ada Mae Hendon of Estill Springs; children, John W. “Trey” Hendon, III, and wife, Katie of Alaska and Stacey Hendon of Estill Springs; grandchildren, Tatyanna Perkins, Donte Perkins and Treyson Hendon; sister, Wanda Lee Johnson of Estill Springs; brother, William Gene Hendon and wife, Amy of Winchester, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Earl Greer and wife, Teresa of the Asia Community in Decherd; and sister-in-law, Linda Hendon of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Visitation was held on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, from noon to 1 p.m. followed by services at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services with military honors bestowed before services. Interment followed in Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester.
SYLVIA SULLIVAN
SULLIVAN, Sylvia Faye Garner, age 84, of Cowan, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, at Laurel Oaks Assisted Living in Winchester. A native of Franklin County, she was born on Sept. 13, 1939, in Decherd to the late Edward Dotson and Clara Frances (Rieben) Garner Jr. She was a 1957 graduate of Franklin County High School. Before her retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper for T.E.R.D.A. Sylvia enjoyed camping trips with her late husband, family and friends. Her favorite was camping at Cumberland Falls State Park in Corbin, Kentucky. She was a member of The Sweet Adelines and the Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she treasured her time being a member of the Cumberland Quartet and the sanctuary choir, as well as serving in the children’s music ministry. Sylvia cherished her time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Julian Sullivan; son, Carl Sullivan; brother, Charles Edward Garner; and sister, Frances Rhea Garner. Sylvia is survived by her son, Kenneth (Tammy) Sullivan; grandchildren, Matthew (Lana) Sullivan and Jamie (Meghan) Sullivan; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rev. Michael Clark officiating. CAROLE PLEASANT
PLEASANT, Carole Ann Albury, age 84, of Winchester, Tennessee, departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital following a brief illness. Ms. Pleasant was born in Miami, Florida, on Nov. 26, 1938, to the late Edmond Albury and Naomi Rose Albury McKinnon. Ms. Pleasant was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Manchester, Tennessee. She was employed for 30-plus years at the Coffee County Bank in Manchester as a bank teller. She loved to travel and always had her many maps to use; no GPS for her. Lots of times she would just take off with no destination in mind. She did enjoy going to the casinos on her many trips. She loved having fun with people and never met a stranger. She will be remembered as a kindhearted lady who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pleasant; brother, Carl Albury; sister, Dorothy Nixson; and son-in-law, Scott Phillips. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Phillips of Lebanon, Tennessee; grandsons, Cody Denton and wife, Tabitha and Tyler Denton, all of Winchester; granddaughter, Miranda Gamble and husband, Derrick of Winchester; brother, Robert Albury of Wake Cross, Georgia; and five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Layne, Lily, Hudson and Daniella. It was Ms. Pleasant’s wishes to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
KATHY CAMBRON
CAMBRON, Kathy Lee Myers, age 75, of Cowan, Tennessee, departed this life, on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital, losing her battle with cancer. Ms. Cambron was born in Winchester, Tennessee, on Sept. 9, 1948, to the late Arnold Lee Myers and Mary Frances Morris Myers. She was a 1966 graduate of Franklin County High School. After school she attended cosmetology school and received her license in cosmetology and was a self-employed beautician for 57 years. Ms. Cambron also received her real estate license and sold real estate in and around Franklin County for approximately 30 years. She was employed first at Century 21 Real Estate for Jim and Pam Peck and later for John Smith Reality before retiring. After retiring she “hit the road” traveling. Ms. Cambron was a dedicated member of the Cowan Church of the Nazarene. She was dedicated at the church by her parents when she was six months old. She was a Christian and loved her church, serving as a mission leader, secretary and treasurer for many years. She especially enjoyed attending the district assembly’s in East Tennessee each year. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, crafting and working in her garden. She also enjoyed being a member of the Elk Valley Bee Club for many years. She was a caring and devoted mother, “granny,” sister and friend and most importantly a loving caretaker of everyone she loved. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly A. Cambron; brother, Jimmy “Cotton” Myers; and sister, Debbie Pickett. She is survived by her daughter, Angela (Billy) Wilkinson of Cowan; special friend, Lloyd Ballard of Winchester; grandchildren, Felicia (Dustin) Shelly of Estill Springs, Nikki (Joshua) Shrum of Cowan, Kary Anderson of Decherd, and Camey Sons of Winchester; brother, Tommy Myers of Cowan; and sisters, Mary Alice Holliday of Cowan and Regina Bradford of Estill Springs. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. followed by services at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Rev. James Myers officiating. Interment followed in the Cowan Montgomery Cemetery.
WAYTANA TAYLOR
TAYLOR, Waytana Dennette, age 51, died on Nov. 17, 2023. Survivors: mother, Linda Joyce (Jimmy) Johnson of Winchester; daughters, Trescha Rashae Brown of Nashville, and Natalia LaShea Taylor of Winchester; grandchildren, Don’Dre and Torionna Maney. Services were held Nov. 22, 2023, at Watson Funeral Home. Interment was in Watson Memorial Park.
ZELLA PARKS
PARKS, Zella Mae, age 84, of Winchester, Tennessee, passed away from this life on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family. Zella was a native resident of Franklin County. She was born on May 3, 1939, the daughter of the late Charlie and Annie Mae Clark. She was a devoted member of Marble Plains Baptist Church. She was such a caring and loving person, which was exemplified throughout her career as a nurse. She was a prayer warrior and enjoyed reading her bible and was an excellent cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by parents, Charlie and Annie Clark and siblings, Floyd Clark and Christine Clark Carter. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Billy M. Parks; children, Bob (Vickie) Parks, Billy (Gladys) Parks, Angie (James) Cantrell and Melissa Parks (Robert Ford); grandchildren, Scott Parks, Cory (Audra) Parks, Amy Parks, Jessica (Jason) Montgomery, Sheena (David) Thompson and Greg (Leslie) Jones; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Throneberry, Makai Parks, Carson Thompson, Abby Montgomery, Tucker Jones, Walker Jones, Ryder Jones, Carter Jones and Sophie Parks. WAYNE HARRISON
HARRISON, Wayne Darin, age 56, of Lynchburg, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Darin was born on Dec. 29, 1966, in Franklin County, Tennessee to Wayne and Carolyn (Smith) Harrison. Darin, better known as Block, lived every day loving his wife, daughters and the apples of his eyes, his six grandbabies. Darin was known for his larger-than-life personality. He always saw the bright side in everything. He loved to aggravate and always had a big bear hug to share. He loved sports of all kinds. You could always hear him yelling “down and ready” and “get your head in the game” in his loud, loving voice. Darin loved fishing, hunting and running his beagles. He was always arranging trips for him, his buddies and the boy. He loved and enjoyed the great outdoors. Darin was absolutely amazing at controlling his emotions; he never reacted to negativity. He always said, “Do not lower yourself to their level,” and “If you can’t control it, don’t worry about it.” He was a sounding block to many people. If anyone confided in him, they could be sure it was never told. Darin loved serving and protecting Moore County. He spent 12 years with the sheriff’s department and was always checking on and loving his “girlfriends.” He took care of all the teens back in the day. He corrected them and gave them many safe rides home. Darin was currently serving as the Moore County assessor of property. He took great pride in a job well done. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Harrison and grandparents, P.O. and Trixie Harrison, and Bill and Ora Lee Smith. Darin is survived by his parents, Wayne and Carolyn Harrison, who have always been proud of him and cherished being his parents; his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Lynn Harrison; daughters, Angela (Nick) Buckman and Dawn (Lee) Millaway; and grandchildren, Brooklyn, Addayson, Lane, Emalee, Mackenzie and Lylah. Visitation was held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, from 3-8 p.m. at Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home and also on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, from 10-11 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. DOROTHY ROBERTS
ROBERTS, Dorothy Leona, age 67, of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Nashville on Aug. 8, 1956. Before her retirement, she had been employed as a sewing machine operator at Oshkosh. She enjoyed watching sports, especially NASCAR and Alabama football, and treasured the family vacations to Gatlinburg. Considered the “best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother” by her family, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family. Her friends and family will remember her making her famous banana pudding and the wonderful times spent together. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Jack Alanzo Best; son, Thomas Richards; grandson, Paxton Hicks; nephew, Josh Dubois; and husband, Michael Roberts. She is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy Paige; daughter, Misty Hicks (Eric); mother, Shirley Crow; brother, Jack Alanzo Best Jr; granddaughters, Brittney Richards, Kimberlee Hicks and Baily Manning (Eli); grandsons, Paytton Richards and Bentley Richards; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Nevaeh, Leia, Kruz, Evalee and Khalil.
