Grace CenterĀ of Hope
Grace Center of Hope opens its doors every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 p.m. with free programs for elementary and middle school children. Kids will be provided with help with homework, group tutoring, games, a meal and an interactive Bible lesson. Grace Center of Hope is located at 912 S. College St., Winchester.
FC SeniorĀ Citizens Center
The Franklin County Senior Citizens Center, 74 Clover Drive, Winchester, is available to provide daily entertainment and activities. The activities on Mondays include exercise by DVD from 9-10 a.m.; ceramics from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; brain games at 10 a.m.; bingo at 10:30 a.m.; line dancing from 10:30-11:30 a.m.; and coloring/painting from 11 a.m. There is also mahjong at noon on the second and fourth Monday of each month. Tuesday activities include chair yoga from 9-10 a.m.; ceramics from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; brain games at 10 a.m. and bingo at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday activities include ladies rook in the library at 11 a.m. Thursday activities include chair yoga from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and line dancing from 11 a.m. to noon. Friday activities include bunco at 10 a.m. and dancing from 6-9 p.m. for $5 per patron. The center also contains the Uptown Thrift Store which is open from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Donations of household items, clothing and accessories are needed at the thrift store.
Grief-support Sundays
Oaklawn Baptist Church, 108 Memorial Drive, Winchester, hosts a grief support group on Sundays at 4 p.m. Call Jennifer Mitchell at 678-763-5691 for more information.
March 30-April 3
Lifeguard training
The Winchester Swimplex, 251 Old Estill Springs Road, will be hosting lifeguard training classes from Monday through April 3. To be eligible for registration, participants must be at least 15 years old, be able to swim 300 yards with either a forward or a breaststroke, be able to tread water for two minutes and be able to pass a timed retrieval swim. Registration can be done online, over the phone at 931-962-4204 or in-person at the Swimplex.
April 18
Spaghetti dinner
The Knights of Columbus will be hosting their Taste of Italy spaghetti dinner on April 18 from 5-7 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church Parish Center, 2037 Decherd Blvd., Decherd. There will be spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread, dessert and beverages. Attendees can choose to eat there or take their food to go. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12 with all net proceeds going directly to local community services.
April 21
DisabledĀ AmericanĀ Veterans
The next meeting of the Disabled American Veterans, Fifth District, Chapter 71, will be on April 21 at 5 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1893 building, 6200 AEDC Road, Estill Springs. The meeting will start with a meal at a cost of $15 with the business portion of the meeting beginning at 5:45 p.m. All veterans are welcome.
Home EnergyĀ Workshop
The Duck River Electric Membership Corporation will be hosting a Home Energy Workshop at the DREMCās office, 1738 Decherd Blvd., Decherd, at 6 p.m. Participants will learn how to boost their homeās energy efficiency, lower their energy bills, create a comfortable home and learn about rebates for efficiency upgrades offered through the Tennessee Valley Authorityās EnergyRight program. The workshop will include a light supper, and each participating household will receive a free home-energy starter kit. Seating is limited. Belvidere firemenāsĀ fish fry
Everyone is invited to the Belvidere firemenās indoor, all-you-can-eat fish fry on April 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Belvidere Community Center, 349 Belvidere Road, Belvidere. Enjoy fish, barbecue chicken, chicken strips, hush puppies, fries, baked beans, coleslaw, drinks and homemade desserts along with live bluegrass music by Josh Ogle, The Old Time Christians, Damien Mason, Journey Home and Chuck Holcomb. Cost is $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 4-12. Children younger than 4 eat free. The Belvidere Valley Lawn and Garden Pullers Association will hold a pulling competition that will be free to watch at the same location starting at noon.
