Principals named for FCHS, DES

Incoming Director of Schools Dr. Roger Alsup has officially named the new leadership for two of the district’s campuses with Brittney Butner being selected as Franklin County High School principal and Shaunna Fortier being designated for the same role at Decherd Elementary School.
Both administrators have been leading their respective schools as interim principals. These selections highlight a commitment to leadership continuity and proven excellence within the Franklin County School System, Alsup said.
“Stability in leadership is vital for the growth of our students and the morale of our faculty,” he said. “Both Mrs. Butner and Ms. Fortier have stepped into their roles with a clear vision. They have already earned the trust of their staff and families, making them the ideal choices to lead these schools forward.”

Butner will be transitioning into the fulltime principal role at FCHS after serving as the school’s assistant principal and curriculum, instruction and data specialist.
A former District Secondary Teacher of the Year, she brings a deep understanding of classroom excellence and instructional technology to her leadership, according to a press release from the School System.
She holds an Education Specialist degree in principalship from Arkansas State University.
“Having worked closely with Mrs. Butner, I have seen firsthand her commitment to the Winchester community and her focus on academic excellence,” Alsup said. “As a former District Teacher of the Year, Brittney understands the importance of supporting our educators while maintaining a positive school culture.”
Butner extended her appreciation for the opportunity before her.
“I am humbled and honored to be the next principal of Franklin County High School,” she said. “I love the faculty, staff and students in our building, and I am excited for what we can all accomplish together.
“Thank you to Dr. Holman, Dr. Alsup, and members of the Franklin County Board of Education for trusting me with this opportunity.”
Shaunna Fortier – Decherd Elementary School Fortier has been a cornerstone of the Decherd Elementary community, previously serving the school as a K-5 instructional coach and a fifth-grade teacher.
Her experience extends to the district level where she served as the K-8 district math coach, conducting instructional check-ins across 10 different schools.
Fortier is pursuing her Education Specialist degree in curriculum and instruction.
“Ms. Fortier has been a vital part of the Decherd team for years,” Alsup said. “She brings a valuable perspective from her time as a district math coach, but more importantly, she has earned the trust of the families and faculty at Decherd.
“I look forward to her continued focus on student achievement and a stable environment for our youngest learners.”
Fortier expressed her gratitude for being selected.
“I am deeply honored to continue serving the Decherd Elementary community, which holds such a special place in my heart, and to continue building a school where every student feels valued, supported and empowered to shine today and lead tomorrow,” she said. “By strengthening relationships, uplifting our teachers and partnering closely with our families, we will ensure every allstar reaches their full potential.”
The selections are effective immediately.
