Memorial Day service to be held at Franklin Memorial Gardens

Everyone is urged to attend the annual Memorial Day service Monday to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to the country.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. at Franklin Memorial Gardens, located on Cowan Highway in Winchester, and is sponsored by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 71, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1893 and Franklin County American Legion Post 44.
Serving as master of ceremonies will be retired Sgt. 1st Class (E-7) Mike Foster, a Gulf War veteran. Speakers will be retired Sgt. Maj. (E-9) Larry Williams, DAV member, and retired Army Col. (O-6) Clinton Williams, a veteran of Vietnam, Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Dr. Jerry Anderson will sing “God Bless the USA,” and Foster will read the list of Franklin County’s deceased veterans. The American Legion Post 44 Band, under the direction of Tom Isbell, will close out the ceremony alongside a rendition of taps performed by Clinton Vincent.
