Rebelettes win two, lose one for week
The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the Giles County Lady Bobcats 14-7 at home on March 26 for their eighth win of the season.
The Rebelettes opened up a big lead in the second inning of the district contest and maintained a sizable advantage for the rest of the day.
The Rebelettes got on the board in the bottom of the first as Bella Smith hit a leadoff double, moved up to third base on an infield single from Addison Partin and scored as Kyleigh De-Camp reached first following a dropped third strike.
The Lady Bobcats responded by scoring two runs in the top of the second to pull ahead by a 2-1 margin early, but the Rebelettes then scored seven runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the game.
The run-scoring plays for Franklin County in the second inning included a grand-slam home run from Leah Hardison and RBI singles from Partin, Dalayna Marshall and Kaitlyn Montgomery to make it an 8-2
game.
The Rebelettes struck for another run in the bottom of the third as an RBI groundout from Hardison pushed the deficit up to 9-2.
The Lady Bobcats began to make up some ground in the top of the fifth as they scored three runs in the frame to cut Franklin County’s lead down to 9-5.
However, the Rebelettes got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the fifth on an RBI single from Hardison to put the lead at 10-5 overall.
The Rebelettes then pulled further away with a four-run frame in the bottom of the sixth as Montgomery and Hardison both recorded RBI singles and Briley Apicella and Courtney Hallenbeck-Wilhoit contributed RBI groundouts in the inning to make it a 14-5 game.
Giles County’s first three batters in the top of the seventh reached base with two of them being brought around to score, but the Rebelettes didn’t allow them to make up any more ground as they secured a seven-run victory.
Marshall pitched the first five innings for the Rebelettes with one strikeout, eight hits, two walks, three earned runs and two unearned runs allowed for the day.
Nelson pitched the remaining two innings in relief with three strikeouts, two hits, two walks and two runs allowed.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 8-9 on the season and 3-1 in district play.
Rebelettes 7, Lawrence County 3
The Rebelettes beat the Lawrence County Lady Wildcats 7-3 on the road on March 24 for their seventh win of the season.
The Rebelettes took an early lead in the district contest and pulled away in the sixth inning as the victory snapped a three-game losing streak.
The Rebelettes were the first team on the board as Marshall hit an RBI single in the top of the first, but the Lady Wildcats countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the score at 1-1.
The Rebelettes pulled right back ahead in the top of the second as Partin recorded an RBI single, and DeCamp contributed a tworun single later in the frame to give Franklin County a 4-1 advantage.
A two-out RBI single from Hallenbeck-Wilhoit in the top of the third pushed Franklin County’s lead up to 5-1, but the Lady Wildcats then scored two runs in the bottom half of the third to put the overall tally at 5-3.
The Rebelettes doubled their lead in the top of the sixth as Hardison hit an RBI single and later came around to score on a wild pitch to make it a 7-3 game late.
The Lady Wildcats loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth on two singles and a walk, but Nelson then recorded a strikeout and induced a popout to strand all three runners.
The Lady Wildcats were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh as the Rebelettes won by four.
Marshall pitched the first four innings for the Rebelettes with four strikeouts, four hits, two walks and three runs allowed for the day.
Nelson pitched three shutout innings in relief with five strikeouts, three hits and one walk allowed.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 7-9 on the season and 2-1 in district play.
Siegel 12, Rebelettes 2
The Rebelettes lost to the Siegel Lady Stars 12-2 on the road on March 23 for their ninth loss of the season.
The Rebelettes fell behind in the middle innings of the contest, and the Lady Stars pulled away for good in the bottom of the sixth to give them their third straight loss.
The Rebelettes got off to a fast start offensively as RBI singles from DeCamp and Apicella gave them a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
However, the Lady Stars answered back by scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 2-2 early.
The Lady Stars took advantage of a few Franklin County errors in the bottom of the third to score three runs in the frame, and Siegel scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the Rebelettes in a 7-2 hole.
A leadoff single from Hadley Jolley in the top of the fifth gave the Rebelettes their first baserunner since the first inning, but she wasn’t able to advance past second base in the frame.
The Lady Stars put the game out of reach with a five-run sixth inning to trigger the mercy rule as the Rebelettes lost by 10.
Nelson pitched the first 3 2-3 innings for the Rebelettes with four strikeouts, five hits, one walk, three earned runs and four unearned runs allowed for the day.
Hardison pitched 1 2-3 innings in relief with four hits, one walk, four earned runs and one unearned run allowed.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 6-9 on the season.
They next played Monday at Cannon County High School in a game which came after the Herald Chronicle’s press deadline.
