Rebelettes end busy week with 4-2 record

The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the Sequatchie County Lady Indians 4-3 at the Summit of Softball Complex Saturday in their fourth and final game for the Ooltewah Invitational.
After trading a few runs early, the Rebelettes took the lead in the bottom of the fourth and held on for a narrow victory as they ended the tournament with a record of 3-1.
The Lady Indians scored their first run of the game in the top of the first, but the Rebelettes answered back early as an RBI single from Addison Partin in the bottom of the first tied the score at 1-1.
The teams also traded one run each in the second inning with an RBI groundout from Addilyn Carter in the bottom of the second providing the scoring play for the Rebelettes to tie the game at 2-2.
The Lady Indians then scored their final run for the contest in the top of the third to put the Rebelettes in a 3-2 hole.
The Rebelettes successfully flipped the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth as Alex Hand laid down an RBI sacrifice bunt to drive in Kaitlyn Montgomery from third base, and Bella Smith contributed an RBI groundout to give her team a 4-3 advantage.
The Lady Indians were retired in order in the top of the fifth as the Rebelettes clinched a one-run victory.
Dalayna Marshall pitched a complete game for the Rebelettes with five hits, two walks, two earned runs and one unearned run allowed for the game.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 1211 on the season.
Rebelettes 7, Bearden 1
The Rebelettes beat the Bearden Lady Bulldogs 7-1 at the Summit of Softball Complex Saturday in their third game for the Ooltewah Invitational.
The Rebelettes scored multiple runs in three of their four offensive frames for the contest as they steadily pulled away to begin the day with a decisive victory.
The Rebelettes took the lead in the bottom of the second as Mollye Casey scored off of an error on a ball hit by Briley Apicella and Victoria Nelson hit an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game.
The early deficit doubled in the bottom of the third as Montgomery recorded an RBI single and Hand hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Casey from third base and push the lead up to 4-0.
The Rebelettes fully pulled away in the bottom of the fourth as Casey hit a two-run home run and Apicella contributed an RBI single to grow their lead up to 7-0.
The Lady Bulldogs avoided getting shut out as they scored a run in the top of the fifth, but the Rebelettes held on from there to win by six.
Nelson pitched four scoreless innings for the Rebelettes with five strikeouts and two hits allowed for the game.
Isabella Gilliam pitched one inning in relief with one strikeout, two hits, one walk and one run allowed.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 11-11 on the season.
Ooltewah 7, Rebelettes 2
The Rebelettes lost to the Ooltewah Lady Owls 7-2 at the Summit of Softball Complex Friday in their second game for the Ooltewah Invitational.
The Rebelettes rallied from an early deficit to tie the score in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lady Owls then pulled away for good with a five-run fifth inning.
The Lady Owls scored one run each in the third and fourth innings to put the Rebelettes in a 2-0 hole.
However, the Rebelettes were able to tie the score in the bottom of the fourth as Hadley Jolley and Casey hit consecutive RBI singles to make it a 2-2 game.
The game wouldn’t be tied for long as a hit batter with the bases loaded allowed one run to score for Ooltewah in the top of the fifth, and a grandslam home run a few pitches later pushed the deficit against Franklin County up to 7-2.
The Rebelettes loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but a groundout then ended the inning, and the game hit its time limit before the sixth inning could begin as they lost by five.
Marshall pitched the first four innings for the Rebelettes with two strikeouts, 10 hits and five runs allowed.
Nelson pitched one inning in relief with two strikeouts, one hit and two runs allowed.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 10-11 on the season.
Rebelettes 5, Knoxville Central 1
The Rebelettes beat the Knoxville Central Lady Bobcats 5-1 at the Summit of Softball Complex Friday in their first game for the Ooltewah Invitational.
The Rebelettes scored most of their runs for the game in the first inning as they maintained a steady advantage for the rest of the contest.
The Rebelettes took advantage of a few Knoxville Central errors to score four runs in the top of the first as Jolley hit an RBI single, Courtney Hallenback-Wilhoit scored off of an error on a ball hit by Kyleigh De-Camp, Apicella hit into an RBI groundout and Hand recorded an RBI single to make it a 4-0 game.
The Lady Bobcats scored a run in the top of the second off of a passed ball, but the Rebelettes got that run back in in the bottom half of the inning as an RBI single from DeCamp pushed the lead back up to 5-1.
The Rebelettes shut out the Lady Bobcats for the remaining two innings of the contest as they won by four.
Smith pitched the first three innings for the Rebelettes with eight strikeouts, three hits, one walk and one unearned run allowed for the day.
Gilliam pitched one scoreless inning in relief with one strikeout, one hit and one walk allowed.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 10-10 on the season.
Marshall County 11, Rebelettes 3
The Rebelettes lost to the Marshall County Tigerettes 11-3 on the road on March 31 for their 10th loss of the season.
The Tigerettes scored most of their runs for the day in the first two innings of the district contest as the Rebelettes weren’t able to overcome a sizable early deficit.
Franklin County head softball coach Kelly Kennedy said that multiple defensive miscues early in the contest put her team in a deep hole for the rest of the day.
“I think we came out a little bit slow, defensively, and we just dug ourselves a hole that we just couldn’t manage to get out of with our bats,” she said. “You can’t give away free bases. You can’t give away free runs. You’ve got to do the little things right, and when you have the opportunity, you’ve got to hit good pitches.”
The Tigerettes took advantage of multiple Franklin County errors in the bottom of the first to score four runs in the frame.
The Rebelettes got on the board in the bottom of the second as Montgomery hit an RBI double to drive in Carter from second base, but the Tigerettes then scored three more runs in the bottom of the second to put the overall score at 7-1.
The teams scored one run each in the third inning as an RBI single from Franklin County’s Leah Hardison was responded to with a run-scoring single from the Tigerettes to make it an 8-2 game.
The Tigerettes went on to score two more runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth to push the deficit up to 11-2 late.
The Rebelettes scored one more run in the top of the seventh off of an RBI groundout from Carter before the last out of the game was recorded to seal their eight-run loss.
Smith pitched the first four innings for the Rebelettes with five strikeouts, eight hits, four walks, five earned runs and five unearned runs allowed for the day.
Dalayna Marshall pitched two innings in relief with one strikeout, two hits and one run allowed.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 9-10 on the season and 3-2 in district play.
Rebelettes 15, Cannon County 13
The Rebelettes beat the Cannon County Lionettes 15-13 on the road on March 30 for their ninth win of the season.
The Rebelettes overcame an early six-run deficit to take the lead in the top of the sixth, and they pulled ahead for good in the seventh inning after the Lionettes briefly tied the score up late.
The Lionettes had nine runners reach base in the bottom of the first with six of them being brought around to score to make it a 6-0 game early.
The Rebelettes got on the board in the top of the second after Montgomery drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI, but the Lionettes scored another run in the bottom of the second to put the overall deficit at 7-1.
An RBI double from Carter in the top of the third allowed the Rebelettes to get that run back, and Apicella contributed an RBI single in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit down to 7-3.
The teams traded tworun frames in the fifth inning as Marshall hit an RBI double and DeCamp scored off of a throwing error for Franklin County before the Lionettes recorded a two-run double in the bottom half of the inning to set the deficit at 9-5.
The Rebelettes then completely flipped the scoreboard with a six-run sixth inning as Smith scored off of an error on a ball hit by Carter, Marshall recorded a three-run triple, Montgomery contributed an RBI groundout and Smith hit an RBI single to put their team in front by an 11-9 margin.
The Lionettes countered with a rally of their own in the bottom of the sixth as a two-out, two-run single tied the game at 1111 going into the final inning.
However, the Rebelettes quickly regained the lead in the top of the seventh as RBI singles from Nelson and Marshall and a two-run home run from Montgomery gave them a 15-11 advantage.
The Lionettes scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to tighten the score, but the Rebelettes then recorded the last out they needed to clinch a two-run victory.
Hardison recorded two outs in the pitching circle for the Rebelettes with five hits, two walks, five earned runs and one unearned run allowed for the day.
Nelson pitched the remaining 6 1-3 innings in relief with five strikeouts, 10 hits, three walks and seven runs allowed.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 9-9 on the season.
They next played Monday at home against Marion County High School in a game which came after the Herald Chronicle’s press deadline.
