Middle school Lady Hornets take road loss to Moore County

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the Moore County Raiderettes 37-25 on the road Tuesday for their fourth loss of the season.

The Lady Hornets were outscored in each of the first three quarters and weren’t able to make up ground in the final period as they took their third straight defeat.

The score was close throughout the opening period with the Raiderettes holding onto a slight early lead.

Huntland trailed 8-4 after one quarter.

Catara Johnson scored all five of Huntland’s points in the second quarter as the Lady Hornets lost a little more ground on the scoreboard.

They trailed 16-9 at halftime.

The Raiderettes scored the last eight points of the third quarter to push the deficit up to double digits for the first time in the contest.

Huntland trailed 26-14 going into the final period.

The deficit peaked at 16 points midway through the fourth quarter with the Lady Hornets taking the loss by a final margin of 12. Loralie Mason scored eight of Huntland’s 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Johnson led the Lady Hornets with 13 points for the game, followed by Loralie Mason with eight points and Abbey Mason with four.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 3-4 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at Fayetteville Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
