The North Middle School Gatorettes lost to the Harris Eaglettes 41-28 at home Monday for their second loss of the season.

After taking an early lead, a scoreless second quarter and a relatively low-scoring third quarter put the Gatorettes in a double-digit hole that they weren’t able to work out of.

The Gators scored nine of their 11 points in the opening period from the free-throw line as they held an early advantage in the contest. Airiana Hill contributed seven of those made free throws and nine total points in the first quarter.

They led 11-5 after one quarter.

However, the Gatorettes weren’t able to get any shots to fall in the second quarter as the Eaglettes took advantage to flip the scoreboard.

North trailed 16-11 at halftime.

The Gatorettes were able to regain some of their offensive footing in the third quarter, but they continued to lose ground overall. Isabella Gilliam scored four of North’s six points in the third quarter.

They trailed 28-17 going into the final period.

The deficit remained steady throughout most of the fourth quarter as the Gatorettes went on to lose by 13 points. Hill scored eight of North’s 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Hill led the Gatorettes with 17 points for the game, followed by Macie Davis and Gilliam with four points each.

Allie Burnette scored three points.

With the loss, the Gatorettes moved to 2-2 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at West Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
