Middle school Lady Hornets notch win at Flintville

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets beat the Flintville Lady Bobcats 33-30 on the road Monday for their third win of the season.

The Lady Hornets overcame a small halftime deficit to take the lead in the third quarter and secured the victory with free throws in the final period of the close road matchup.

The teams were evenly matched through the opening period with the teams tied at 6-6 entering the second quarter of play.

The Lady Bobcats created some separation on the scoreboard in the second quarter as the Lady Hornets found themselves trailing by two possessions at the end of the half. Catara Johnson scored all six of Huntland’s points in the second quarter.

Huntland trailed 17-12 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets doubled their point total in the third quarter as they were able to jump ahead of the Lady Bobcats by the end of the period.

Huntland led 24-22 going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Hornets scored seven of their nine points in the fourth quarter from the free-throw line as their successes there would be enough to give them the win by three. Abbey Mason scored five of Huntland’s nine points in the fourth quarter.

Johnson led the Lady Hornets with 13 points for the game, followed by Abbey Mason with nine points and Millie Walker with five.

Loralie Mason scored four points and Josie Lafevers scored two.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 3-1 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at home against Fayetteville Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
