Middle school Lady Hornets drop road contest to Community

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the Community Viqueens 39-15 on the road Monday for their first loss of the season.
A slow start on offense put the Lady Hornets in a deep hole that they weren’t able to work out of in the road contest.
A basket by Abbey Mason gave the Lady Hornets their only points of the opening period as the Viqueens created some separation on the scoreboard early.
Huntland trailed 10-2 after one quarter.
Catara Johnson hit a pair of free throws in the second quarter to give the Lady Hornets their only points of the period as the deficit quickly grew to double digits.
They trailed 21-4 at halftime
The Lady Hornets were able to hit a few shots in the third quarter, but they continued to lose ground as the Viqueens brought their lead up to more than 20 points.
Huntland trailed 34-10 going into the final period.
The deficit remained steady in the fourth quarter as the Lady Hornets lost by 24 points.
Johnson and Abbey Mason led the Lady Hornets with six points each for the game, followed by Loralie Mason with three points.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 1-1 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at home against Winchester Christian Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
