Middle school Lady Hornets take home loss to Community

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the Community Viqueens 5-1 at home Friday for their second loss of the season.

The Viqueens jumped out to a big early lead and maintained a steady advantage the rest of the way as the Lady Hornets’ record for the season moved below .500.

Huntland Middle head soccer coach Shaun Mason said his team didn’t play up to its potential with the offense of the Lady Hornets struggling to keep the ball on the opposing side of the field, especially during the first half.

The Viqueens put up four goals before halftime as they kept up consistent pressure on Huntland’s goal early.

The Lady Hornets trailed 4-0 at halftime.

The Viqueens got their last goal early in the second half to grow the deficit to 5-0.

Shaun Mason said his team began to settle down from there and moved the ball more effectively the rest of the way.

The Lady Hornets got on the board with about 15 minutes remaining as Abbey Mason fired in a shot from just outside the goal box for her fifth score of the season.

Neither team would score for the remainder of the game as the Lady Hornets lost by four.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 1-2-1 on the season.

They will next play Monday at Fayetteville Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
