Local runners compete in Coffee County Invitational

The cross country teams of Franklin County High School, North Middle School and Winchester Christian Academy competed in the Coffee County Invitational Tuesday at the Old Stone Fort Golf Course.

The Rebel and Rebelette runners of FCHS combined for eight top-25 finishes at the meet, including three top-10 placements.

Ruby Webb led the way for the Rebelettes in the high school girls race as she finishes seventh out of 90 runners with a time of 22:28.

Catherine Money would be the next Franklin County runner to finish as she placed 14th with a mark of 24:03.

Audrey Stewart and Zulema Martinez finished within seconds of each other as they took 22nd and 23rd, respectively, with times of 25:14 and 25:17.

The remaining runners for the Rebelettes and their times and placements for the day were Lily Heath, 41st, 27:22; Aahna Carter, 47th, 28:37; Jada Hand, 52nd, 30:04; and Addy Hannaway, 58th, 31:22.

The top placement for the Rebels in the boys race belonged to Owen Stewart who finished sixth out of 115 runners with a time of 18:23.

Teammate Daniel Heath also raced into the top 10 as he placed 10th overall with a mark of 18:50.

The next two Rebels across the finish line were Jasper Henley and Josh Smith in 24th and 25th place, respectively, with times of 20:05 and 20:10.

The remaining runners for the Rebels and their times and placements for the day were Austin Heath, 36th, 20:40; Cristian Fravel, 52nd, 21:38; Mason Phillips, 62nd, 21:53; Michael Vasenko, 72nd, 22:49; and Kane Hawkersmith, 73rd, 22:51.

In the team standings, the Rebels finished third out of 10 schools for the boys race with a group score of 97 while the Rebelettes placed fourth out of 11 girls teams with 102 points. Blackman swept the top of both standings with scores of 35 for the boys race and 39 for the girls race.

WCA fielded runners in the high school and middle school divisions with Sadie Wells having the best finish among the WCA Lady Lions for the high school girls race. Wells placed 28th for the event with a time of 25:48.

Billie Rose Johnson crossed the finish line shortly afterward in 32nd place with a mark of 25:55.

Alex Wiley rounded out the competitors for the high school Lady Lions as she finished 56th with a time of 31:15.

Wyatt Reed was the lone representative for the Lions in the high school boys race as he finished 82nd with a time of 23:20.

In the middle school boys race, WCA’s Colton Cox took the top spot out of 42 runners with a mark of 12:13, beating Warren County’s Lucas Rhea by 32 seconds for first place.

Levi Karl and Luke Garland also cracked the top 10 for the middle school Lions as their respective times of 14:15 and 14:18 put them in seventh and eighth place.

The remaining runners for the middle school Lions and their times and placements for the day were Miles Felton, 13th, 15:01; Rylan Parvin, 14th, 15:27; Nolan Curtis, 19th, 16:18; Cooper Franklin, 31st, 18:02; Nathan Jaccard, 36th, 18:59; and Lane Blevins, 37th, 19:04.

The middle school Lions also took first place out of five teams in the group standings with their score of 37 beating out White County by 19 points.

In the middle school girls race, Annie Wells had the best performance among the Lady Lions as she placed 19th out of 34 competitors with a time of 18:29.

Elise Horton made it into the top 25 as well as she finished 23rd with a mark of 19:32.

Rounding out the performance for the middle school Lady Lions were Audrey Glenn in 28th place with a time of 23:07 and Maddy Wiley in 30th with a mark of 23:28.

The North Gators had two runners competing in the boys race with Leevi Jones recording the higher finish of the two as he placed 17th with a time of 16:12.

William Oglesby completed the course in 17:18 to take 27th place.

On the girls side, Maddy Phillips was the lone representative for North, and she finished 25th for the day with a time of 19:49.

The FCHS boys and girls cross country teams will next compete Saturday in the Chickasaw Trails Invitational at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Oakville, Alabama. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

The WCA boys and girls cross country teams will next compete Friday in the Midstate Cross Country Association’s middle school championship meet at The Hermitage. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

The North boys and girls cross country teams will next compete on Sept. 19 in a meet at Henry Horton State Park. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
