Local runners compete in Mountain Lion Invitational

The cross country teams of Franklin County High School, Winchester Christian Academy and North Middle School competed in the Mountain Lion Invitational Saturday at St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School.
The FCHS Rebels and Rebelettes combined for seven top-20 finishes at the meet, including three placements inside of the top 10.
Owen Stewart had the best overall finish for Franklin County on the day as he finished third out of 77 runners in the high school boys race with a time of 20:20. St. Andrew’s-Sewanee’s Toby Van de Ven took first place for the race with a mark of 19:23.
Daniel Heath also raced into the top 10 for FCHS as he placed eighth for the meet with a time of 21:23.
Jasper Henley cracked the top 20 as well with his final time of 22:12 putting him in 19th for the race.
Cristian Fravel finished 27th with a mark of 22:51, and Austin Heath followed shortly afterward in 32nd with a time of 23:04.
The remaining runners for the Rebels and their times and placements for the day were Kane Hawkersmith, 46th, 24:05; and Mason Phillips, 64th, 27:39.
Ruby Webb had the best time among the Rebelettes in the high school girls race as she finished seventh out of 57 runners with a mark of 25:16. Endurance XC’s Ashlyn Drown finished first in the event with a time of 23:07.
The next three FCHS runners to complete the course came in quick succession as Caitlyn Cashion, Audrey Stewart and Catherine Money took 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively, with times of 26:31, 26:44 and 27:06.
Zulema Martinez and Calli Alonso both finished in the top 25 as their respective times of 29:14 and 29:47 put them in 24th and 25th.
The remaining runners for the Rebelettes and their times and placements for the day were Lily Heath, 26th, 29:50; Addy Hannaway, 36th, 33:44; and Jada Hand, 45th, 35:22.
In the team standings, the Rebels finished second out of 10 teams with a team score of 89 while the Rebelettes finished third out of seven schools with 63 points. Endurance XC out of Huntsville, Alabama, took first place in the boys and girls standings with respective team scores of 54 and 44.
There were four total WCA runners in competition at the meet with three of them racing in the high school girls race.
Sadie Wells had the highest placement out of this trio as she finished 17th for the day with a time of 27:25.
Billie Rose Johnson placed 23rd with a mark of 29:04, and Alex Wiley took 51st place with a time of 38:13.
Wyatt Reed was the lone WCA runner in the high school boys race, and he finished 47th with a mark of 24:23.
The North Gators fielded two runners in the middle school boys race as Leevi Jones placed 17th out of 40 runners with a time of 16:19.
William Oglesby followed a few minutes later with a time of 20:43 to take 31st place.
Maddy Phillips represented the Gatorettes in the middle school girls race, finishing 16th out of 20 with a mark of 20:44.
The FCHS Rebels and Rebelettes will next compete in the Cascade Invitational on Oct. 5 at Arrowhead Ranch. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
The WCA Lions and Lady Lions will next compete Thursday in a meet at John Griswold Recreation Park in Dunlap. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:50 p.m.
The North Gators and Gatorettes will next compete on Oct. 3 in a meet at Winchester City Park. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
