Cross country Rebels, Rebelettes open season at Community

The Franklin County High School boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Community Trail Invitational Tuesday at Community High School in their first meet of the season.

The Rebel and Rebelette runners combined for seven top-10 finishes at the meet, including a first-place finish from Owen Stewart in the boys race.

Stewart crossed the finish line with a time of 19:19 to easily claim first place in the boys portion of the meet. Teammate Daniel Heath followed closely behind in third place with a mark of 19:37.

Austin Heath and Cristian Fravel finished within a few seconds of each other to take sixth and seventh place, respectively, as they completed the course with times of 21:03 and 21:09.

Josh Smith also found his way into the top 15 as he placed 12th for the meet with a time of 21:42.

The other runners for the Rebels and their times and placements for the day were Michael Vasenko, 21st, 23:32; Jasper Henley, 23rd, 23:40; Mason Phillips, 29th, 24:52; and Kane Hawkersmith, 31st, 26:02.

On the girls side, Ruby Webb took second place for the day with a time of 23:36.

Catherine Money was the next Franklin County runner to finish the race as she placed fifth with a time of 25:06, and Audrey Stewart followed in sixth place with a mark of 25:28.

Lily Heath ended the day with a 12th-place finish after completing the course in 28:30, and Zulema Martinez followed in 14th place with a time of 29:19.

Addison Hannaway rounded out the times for the Rebelettes as she finished 21st for the meet with a mark of 33:01.

The FCHS boys and girls cross country teams will next compete on Sept. 5 in the Coffee County Invitational at the Old Stone Fort Golf Course. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
