Lemonade Challenge aids Isaiah 117 House

As a way to beat the summer heat, those visiting or working at the Franklin County Courthouse Friday were treated to a special lemonade stand with a two-fold purpose.

In addition to providing relief from scorching July temperatures, the stand — manned by county government employees supporting the Isaiah 117 House’s cause — was used to raise funds from lemonade sales and increase awareness about the organization’s purpose.

Isaiah 117 House focuses on providing a loving home that offers physical and emotional support to children awaiting foster care placement. The local Isaiah 117 House is located in Pelham and serves at-risk youths in Franklin, Grundy and Coffee counties.

Lemonade customers were steady throughout the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. time frame the stand was open on Friday, which was pleasing to Program Coordinator Susan Johnson.

She said the main goal of the national Isaiah 117 House Lemonade Challenge is to get word out about what the organization does so that people will remember it and offer their support.

“We don’t have a financial goal,” Johnson said. “This is truly all about increasing awareness. It’s more about letting people know what we do.”

Johnson explained that the Lemonade Challenge was being held Friday through Sunday at 11 locations in the three counties the local Isaiah 117 House serves.
