HOMER LAYNE

 LAYNE, Homer Dean, age 87, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from age-related causes. He was born on April 9, 1936, to the late William Arthur Layne and Annie Caldwell in Columbia, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Layne Nolan. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Mr. Layne was also a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a retired educator. Mr. Layne is survived by his wife, Marie Roberts Layne; daughter, Kathy Lynn (Danny) Helms of Monroe, North Carolina, and Lisa Gale (Daryl) Adams of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; three sisters, Carol Ann (Bob) Martin of Lebanon, Tennessee, Teresa (Bob) Moles of Maricopa, Arizona, and Sylvia Layne of Sarasota, Florida; several nieces and nephews; six grandchildren, Chris (April) Helms of Monroe, North Carolina, Candice (Zach) Perry of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Joseph Ammon (Teresa) Keebaugh of Cookeville, Tennessee, Justin Travis and Donnie Keebaugh, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Meghan (Nick) Alcocer of Fort Payne, Alabama; and five great-grandchildren, Leela and Fianna Keebaugh, Denver and Brooklyn Perry and Brair Lynn Helms. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, Tennessee, with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Central Funeral Home with Bishop Vaughn Barry, President Joseph Pennington of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Bro. Keith Fults of the Altamont, Tennessee, Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma, Tennessee. GLENN GREEN

GREEN, Glenn Clayton, age 95, of Huntland, Tennessee, departed this life on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at his residence, following an extended illness.  Mr. Green was born in Francisco, Alabama, on Sept. 27, 1927, to the late Sally Pogue Green and Clayton E. Green.  Mr. Green was a graduate of Princeton High School in Alabama.  Mr. Green then worked as Huntland’s telephone operator.  He made local and long distance calls from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. for five months in 1945, before joining the U.S. Navy.   He proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He then returned home and was employed at his father’s grocery store. Mr. Green was then owner of Green’s Grocery until his retirement. He is a member of the Beech Grove Methodist Church.  His hobbies were fishing, bowling and watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves play baseball. Mr. Green is survived by his beloved wife of almost 55 years if he had lived until July 27, 2023, Evelyn Stovall Green.  He is also survived by his daughters, Debbie Willis and husband, Johnny, Terri Boyd and husband, Wilson, all of Cowan, Tennessee, Kimberly St. George and husband, Troy of Cary, North Carolina, and Sharon Brazelton and husband, Tommy of Evans, Georgia;, brother, Leland Green of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Brian Boyd and wife, Kristy, Jill Metcalf and husband, Scott, Nic Willis and wife, Cassie, all of Cowan, Zachary St. George, Kaitlynn St. George of Cary, North Carolina and Harley Brazelton of Evans, Georgia; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation was held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. followed by services at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Chaplin Jerry Stewart and Bro. Joseph Sheedy officiating.  Interment followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Huntland, with military honors bestowed.  Family and friends served as pallbearers.

BENNY CRICK

 CRICK, Benny, age 93, of Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Bailey Manor in Winchester.  He was born in Sewanee, on Sept. 12, 1929, to the late Charles and Virginia (Barnett) Crick and was the husband of the late Mary (Daugherty) Crick for 54 years. Benny was a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant and proudly served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.  After returning home, he was employed as an office manager at Schwerman Trucking Company until his retirement.  He loved and protected his family, and even after retirement, always found ways to serve and help others. Benny was of the Episcopalian faith.  Benny is survived by his grandchildren, Ben (Jennifer Long) Oglesby, Susan Oglesby Chavez, Laura Oglesby, and Justin Oglesby; great-granddaughter, Harriett Oglesby; sisters, Jean Bean and Dot Davidson; and many special nieces and nephews.  Along with his wife and parents, Benny was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Oglesby; son, Kenneth King; sister, Patsy Bradford; brother, Tommy Crick; and special brother-in-law, Clyde Daugherty.  A graveside service was held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 1 p.m. CST at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Huntsville, Tennessee.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Harbor. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN 37398, 931-967-2222, www.moorecortner.com.
