The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the South Pittsburg Lady Pirates 15-6 at home Tuesday for their 14th win of the season.

The Lady Hornets never trailed in the contest and pulled away in the later innings as they ended a four-game losing streak with the victory.

The Lady Hornets got off to a strong start with two runs in the bottom of the first as DeAnna Burton hit an RBI single before later coming around to score off of an error on a ball hit by Camerin Davis to quickly give Huntland a 2-0 advantage.

Another four runs scored in the bottom of the second as Hadley Gardner drew a bases-loaded walk, Burton hit into an RBI fielder’s choice, Davis hit a sacrifice fly and Gardner scored off of an error to grow the early lead to 6-0.

The Lady Pirates got their offense rolling in the top of the third as they score four runs to cut the deficit back down to two.

After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, the Lady Pirates scored two runs in the top of the fifth to tie the score at 6-6.

However, the score wouldn’t be tied for long as Isabella Smith and Blair Finchum both scored off of errors in the bottom of the fifth before Hadley Gardner hit a two-run home run to give the Lady Hornets a 10-6 lead.

The Lady Hornets added another five runs to their advantage in the bottom of the sixth as Hazel Reed got the scoring started for the frame by hitting a leadoff single and coming all the way around to score on the same play due to an error.

The inning continued with an RBI bunt single by Bailey Morris, a two-run single by Burton and an RBI single by Jocy May bringing the deficit up to nine runs.

The Lady Pirates weren’t able to make up any ground in the top of the seventh as the Lady Hornets wrapped up the nine-run victory.

Kinah Mason pitched a complete game for the Lady Hornets with four strikeouts, nine hits, four earned runs and two unearned runs allowed.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 14-8 on the season.

They will next play Monday against Cornersville High School at Eagleville in a first-round game for the District 9A tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
