Best Bloom of the Village contest is Saturday

The 12th annual Best Bloom of the Village contest will be held at the historic Falls Mill in Belvidere on Saturday.

This year’s theme will be native Tennessee wildflowers. Entries will be accepted starting at 1 p.m. The judging will be held at 4 p.m.

The bloom entered must have been gathered in the wild and not cultivated in any way, nor are entries to be obtained from florists, greenhouses or from having been planted either from seed or cuttings.

Entries are to be characterized by a single bloom or multiple blooms on a single stem.

Only one entry per family unit is permitted and the person entering their item shall have gathered it themselves and shall enter it in-person and not by proxy.

Potted plants and arrangements of flowers that are brought will be displayed for viewing but will not be entered in the contest.

The first-place prize for the best bloom is $200, second place is $100 and third is $50. There will be a fourth-place prize of $25 if more than 12 entries are judged.

The flower show is held in memory of Huntland horticulturalist and fashion milliner Mrs. Christine Lee Wilce (1922-2013).
