The Franklin County Rebels beat the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles 15-5 at home Tuesday for their 10th win of the season.
Both teams got off to strong starts on offense with the Rebels pulling away in the bottom of the third and putting the game out of reach with a quartet of runs in the bottom of the fifth to trigger the mercy rule.
The Golden Eagles got the first run of the contest in the top of the second off of a sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead.
However, the Rebels quickly answered back as Sam Vincent hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second to tie the score, and Brayden Henley followed with a three-run double a few batters later to give Franklin County a 4-1 advantage.
Henley moved to third on a single by Gus Gardner and walked home following a balk by Shelbyvlle’s pitcher to make it a 5-1 game.
The Golden Eagles responded with four runs of their own in the top of the third to tie the score as a few errors by the Rebels extended the inning.
The Rebels wouldn’t wait long to jump back ahead as singles by Graysen McNeese and Casen Gilliam and a walk by Wyatt Lowe loaded the bases before Gavin Sells, Vincent, Austin Roberts and Henley each hit RBI singles to score one run each.
Gardner contributed a sacrifice fly in the frame for another run, and McNeese hit an RBI single in his second at-bat of the inning to round out the six-run frame as the Rebels took an 11-5 lead.
The Rebels wrapped up the game in the bottom of the fifth as Gilliam hit a two-run single, Roberts added another RBI single and Henley got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put the final deficit at an even 10 runs.
Vincent pitched a complete game for the Rebels with five strikeouts, seven hits, one earned run and four unearned runs allowed.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 10-10 on the season and 4-6 in district play.
They will next play Friday at home against Grundy County High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
