Artist memorializes K-9 Taz for Bridge Program
Local artist Barbara Lancaster recently created a very special gift to present to Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sam Davidson, a painting of his deceased K-9 partner, Taz.
The painting was commissioned by the Bridge Program to thank Sgt. Davidson for his service with the organization.
The Bridge Program is an extension of the Franklin County Prevention Coalition for Franklin County youths ages 8-18.
The Franklin County Prevention Coalition is a community coalition that brings people and organizations together to reduce youth substance abuse and violence through education and prevention strategies in Franklin County.
The Bridge Program focuses on life skills, team-building activities, art, physical activities, social skills, emotional management, service learning projects and inspiration for creating positive change in the lives of the students.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies join in the Bridge Program to inspire the youths by breaking barriers and stigma about law enforcement.
Davidson has been an influential part of the Bridge team since 2019. His important functions at Bridge include roles as a mentor, peacekeeper, coach, positive male role model and dodgeball king.
“But at the end of the day, Sam is here to support every Bridge student,” Bridge coordinator Felicia Kelsey said.
Kelsey connected with Lancaster through the Adopt a Cop project that the Franklin County Prevention Coalition held in December for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
“Lancaster has been sharing her talents with the Bridge students since January this year,” noted Kelsey. “We at Bridge are lucky to have such a talented and compassionate volunteer.”
The Bridge Program meets every Monday and Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. If you would like to register your child, contact Kelsey at 931-308-4484.
