The Franklin County Rebels beat the Grundy County Yellowjackets 13-3 on the road Saturday for their ninth win of the season.

The Rebels built up a solid early advantage and fully pulled away in the last two innings to move their record for the season back to .500.

Payton Miller reached base with two outs in the top of the first off of an error, and another error following a single by Gus Gardner allowed Miller to score from there to make it a 1-0 game early.

The Rebels added another two runs to their lead in the top of the second as Jacob Hardison drew a bases-loaded walk and Austin Roberts hit a sacrifice fly to put the score at 3-0.

The Yellowjackets scored their first run of the day in the bottom of the second to cut into the early deficit, but the Rebels countered with five runs in the top of the third to pull ahead by seven runs overall.

The scoring in the third inning came on four consecutive RBI singles as Brayden Henley, Graysen McNeese, Wyatt Lowe and Gavin Sells provided the hits. Henley, Lowe and Sells drove in one run each in the frame while McNeese’s single scored two.

The Yellowjackets chipped away at the deficit once again in the bottom of the fourth as they scored a pair of runs to make it an 8-3 game.

However, the Rebels got those two runs back in the top of the sixth as Sells and Hardison both drew bases-loaded walks to push the deficit back up to seven.

The lead would be brought up to double digits in the top of the seventh as Sells hit a two-run single and Hardison followed with an RBI single a few pitches later to round out the scoring for the contest.

The Yellowjackets weren’t able to offer any kind of response in the final frame as the Rebels wrapped up the 10-run victory.

Henley pitched the first three innings for the Rebels with two strikeouts, one hit and three unearned runs allowed in the win.

McNeese pitched the remaining four innings in relief with two strikeouts, two hits and no runs allowed.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 9-9 on the season.

They will next play Monday at Shelbyville Central High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
