Lady Hornets drop CC Classic game to Stewarts Creek

S

The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Stewarts Creek Lady Hawks 15-0 at Dave King Park Saturday in their second and final game for the Coffee County Classic.

The Lady Hornets were shut out for the first time this season while the Lady Hawks scored multiple runs in every frame of the four-inning contest.

The Lady Hawks got the scoring started with three runs in the top of the first, and a grand slam by Stewarts Creek in the top of the second brought the early deficit up to 7-0.

The Lady Hawks added another six runs in the top of the third with all of their scores for the frame coming with two outs. The scoring was rounded out by two more runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 15-run game.

The Lady Hornets had all three of their hits for the day come in the bottom of the fourth as DeAnna Burton, Jocy May and Hazel Reed each singled to load the bases, but none of the runners came across to score as the game ended after four innings due to the mercy rule.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 13-6 on the season.

They will next play Wednesday at Eagleville High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
