The North Middle School Gators lost to the Warren County Pioneers 11-1 at home Tuesday in their first game of the season.

The Gators fell behind early in the contest with the Pioneers pulling away in the middle innings to put the game out of reach.

The Pioneers scored three runs in the top of the first inning and tacked on another run in the second to take an early 4-0 lead.

After a scoreless third inning, the Pioneers put up five more runs in the top of the fourth to push the deficit up to 9-0.

The lead grew to double digits in the top of the fifth when the Pioneers pushed another two runners across to make it an 11-0 game.

The Gators broke through for their lone run in the bottom of the fifth when Isaac Winton hit a two-out, RBI double to bring Colson Kelley around to score.

However, the Gators wouldn’t be able to score again as the game ended via the mercy rule after five innings.

With the loss, the Gators opened their season with a record of 0-1.

They will next play Wednesday at Warren County Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
