FC boys soccer wins two, loses one at Smoky Mountain Cup

The Franklin County High School boys soccer team competed in the Smoky Mountain Cup Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Gatlinburg, and the team ended the event with a record of 2-1.
The tournament provided the first games of the season for Franklin County with contests being held at Rocky Top Sports World.
Franklin County opened the event with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Stone Memorial Panthers Friday.
Loui Arellano got the scoring started for Franklin County in the contest with Brody Metcalf and Josiah Cruz adding one goal each to give them a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Arellano scored his second goal of the day in the second half to bring the final deficit to four while Franklin County’s defense secured a shutout on the other end of the pitch.
Franklin County’s lone loss of the tournament came on Saturday with a 3-2 defeat to the Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences Patriots.
Kevin Hernandez scored one goal for Franklin County in the first half as he received a corner kick and knocked it into the net with a header.
Franklin County trailed 3-1 at halftime.
Rylan Banks added a goal in the second half to make it a one-score game, but Franklin County couldn’t find an equalizer as the team lost by one.
Franklin County rounded out the weekend with a 5-1 win against the Henry County Patriots on Sunday.
Banks scored his second goal of the tournament early in the contest, and Metcalf and Hernandez added one goal each later in the first half to bolster the lead.
Franklin County led 3-1 at halftime.
Hernandez and Metcalf both scored again in the second half to get their respective third goals of the tournament as Franklin County’s final lead settled at four.
Franklin County finished second overall in the Mount Love Division for the Smoky Mountain Cup with CSAS taking the top spot in the pool with a perfect 3-0 record.
With the results from the tournament, Franklin County started the season with a record of 2-1.
The boys soccer team will next play Friday against Red Bank High School at White County in a game for the Ronald Mezime Memorial Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
