The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles 7-3 on the road Tuesday for their fourth loss of the season.

The Golden Eagles scored all of their runs in the first two innings with the Rebels not being able to rally back for the rest of the day.

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first and added another three runs in the bottom of the second. The Rebels committed a few errors on defense across the two frames which gave Shelbyville extra opportunities on offense early.

The Rebels had at least one batter reach base in each of the first four innings, but they weren’t able to move any of those baserunners past second base.

The Rebels broke through for their first runs of the day in the bottom of the fifth when Payton Miller hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit down to five.

Casen Gilliam added an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to make it a four-run game, but the Rebels weren’t able to score any more runs in the contest as they lost by four.

Josiah Cullins pitched the first two innings for the Rebels with seven hits, four earned runs and three unearned runs allowed.

Miller pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings in relief with two strikeouts and one hit allowed. Gilliam added another 2 2-3 scoreless innings to close out the game with two strikeouts and one hit allowed.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 5-4 on the season and 1-3 in district play.

They will next play Friday at Smyrna High School in a game for the Warrior Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
