Hornets drop road contest to Cascade

The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Cascade Champions 104-73 on the road Tuesday for their 11th loss of the season.
The Hornets trailed for the entire contest as they weren’t able to match the scoring pace set by a barrage of 3-pointers from the hosting Champions.
The Champions opened the game with a 16-3 run to establish a sizable early lead against the Hornets.
Huntland trailed 27-18 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, both teams perfectly matched their respective point totals from the previous period as the deficit against Huntland doubled as a result.
The Hornets trailed 54-36 at halftime.
The deficit was steady throughout the third quarter with the Hornets making up a small amount of ground over the course of the period.
They trailed 76-60 going into the final period.
A 20-5 run by Cascade to open the fourth quarter ended any chance of a Huntland comeback as the Hornets went on to lose by 31 points. The Champions hit a total of 16 3-pointers in the contest.
Eli Wiggs led the Hornets with 23 points for the game, followed by Braylen Phillips with 18 points and Lashawn Kimmons and Trace Kilpatrick with eight points each.
Kannon Lafevers scored six points, Landon Farmer scored four, Cade Limbaugh scored three, Avery Petty scored two and Jarren Kinslow scored one.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 14-11 on the season.
They will next play Friday at home against Fayetteville City High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
