Gatorettes top East to advance to conference semis

The North Middle School Gatorettes beat the East Lady Panthers 41-22 at home Monday in a quarterfinal game for the Central Tennessee Conference tournament.

The Gatorettes led for the entire contest and pulled away in the second half to pick up a convincing victory and move on to the next round of the bracket.

The Gatorettes scored the first eight points of the contest and only allowed one point in the first quarter overall.

They led 10-1 after one quarter.

The Lady Panthers kept the scoring more even in the second quarter, but the Gatorettes still maintained a solid lead. Gracen Baggett scored four of North’s five points in the second quarter.

North led 15-6 at halftime.

The Gatorettes scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to bring their advantage up to double digits for the rest of the contest.

They led 31-12 going into the final period.

The teams alternated scoring throughout the fourth quarter as the Gatorettes kept a steady lead and finished off the 19-point win.

Baggett led the Gatorettes with 13 points for the game, followed by Kenzie Arnold and Sadie Hill with eight points each.

Keira Turner scored four points, Macie Davis scored three, Mattie Hill and Isabella Gilliam scored two points each, and Shekinah Miller scored one point.

With the win, the Gatorettes improved to 9-4 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at home against Warren County Middle School in a semifinal game for the CTC tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
