The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the Eagleville Lady Eagles 41-17 at Lincoln County High School Thursday in a quarterfinal game for the Area 12A tournament.

A slow start to the game on offense put the Lady Hornets in a double-digit hole that they couldn’t work out of as their season came to an end with the loss.

The Lady Eagles scored the first nine points of the game with Huntland’s only point in the first quarter coming on a free throw by Abbey Mason with 6.5 seconds left in the period.

The Lady Hornets trailed 9-1 after one quarter.

Stratton Davis hit two close-range shots to provide all of the Lady Hornets’ points in the second quarter as the deficit grew to double digits early.

They trailed 20-5 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets got their offense back on track in the third quarter, but they weren’t able to make up any ground on the scoreboard. Millie Walker scored five of Huntland’s nine points in the third quarter.

They trailed 29-14 going into the final period.

The Lady Eagles fully pulled away in the fourth quarter as the Lady Hornets took the loss by a final margin of 24 points.

Walker led the Lady Hornets with six points for the game, followed by Mason with five points and Davis with four.

Emily Stewart scored two points.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets finished their season with a record of 11-10.
