Lady Hornets blow out Grundy County for third straight win

The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Grundy County Lady Jackets 59-41 at home Saturday for their 14th win of the season.
The Lady Hornets took an early lead in the contest and pulled away in the third quarter as they were able to easily secure their third straight victory.
The Lady Hornets ended the first quarter with eight straight points to create some early separation on the scoreboard.
They led 17-8 after one quarter.
The Lady Hornets maintained a steady lead throughout the second quarter as they brought their early advantage up to double digits.
They led 30-20 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets opened the second half with 12 consecutive points to push their lead up to 20 points, and they went on to allow just four points total for the third quarter on the defensive end.
They led 48-24 going into the final period.
The Lady Jackets made up some ground once both teams began to rotate starters out of the game in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Hornets remained comfortably ahead and went on to win by 18 points.
Logan McLennan led the Lady Hornets with 17 points for the game, followed by Jocy May with 16 points and Aysia Williams with seven.
Maddie Burks scored five points, Morgan Sanders scored four, Jacey Riley and Judah Hill scored three points each, and Kinsley Kilpatrick and Yareli Avalos scored two points each.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 14-7 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at Moore County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
