Second drowning at Tims Ford
A 24-year-old Tullahoma man died Sunday, marking the second drowning at Tims Ford Lake this year.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency responded to a report of a possible drowning at Tims Ford Lake in Moore County Sunday at about 5:20 p.m., according to a TWRA press release.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Blake Lewis was on the lake with a friend in a paddle-craft-style vessel, the press release said.
While paddling, Mr. Lewis fell overboard and entered the water where he appeared to struggle to swim, the press release said, adding that an occupant of another vessel attempted to assist by throwing multiple personal flotation devices, but Mr. Lewis was unable to reach them before disappearing beneath the surface.
Emergency services were notified via 911, and responding agencies included Franklin County, Moore County and the TWRA.
First responders conducted search efforts using sonar and successfully located and recovered Mr. Lewis’ body at 7:11 p.m.
The press release said he was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.
The incident remains under investigation and marks the fourth boating- related fatality on Tennessee waterways in 2026 and the second one at Tims Ford this year, the press release said.
The previous incident at Tims Ford occurred on March 16 when a man’s body was recovered at about 11:30 a.m. by Emergency Management Agency personnel, marking Franklin County’s first drowning of 2026.
The man was identifi ed as Terajima Nobuyuki from Hermitage.
EMA and TWRA personnel had responded to an emergency call on the evening of March 15 but had to suspend operations due to inclement weather conditions with the search being postponed until the next day.
The Sheriff’s Office provided information it had received through witness accounts.
Reports said that Mr. Nobuyuki apparently tied his boat to a dock, then got into his vehicle and trailer. However, when he backed the trailer into the water, he apparently realized the boat had become untied from the dock, reports said.
Mr. Nobuyuki attempted to swim after his boat, but he was unable to reach it and couldn’t swim back to shore, reports said, adding that he went underwater and never reappeared.
