FC boys soccer wins one, loses two for week

The Franklin County High School boys soccer team lost to the Coffee County Raiders 1-0 on the road Friday for the team’s sixth loss of the season.

Franklin County fell behind early in the contest and was shut out for the fourth time this season as the loss ended a four-game district winning streak.

The lone goal of the day was recorded about three minutes into the contest as the Raiders scored off of a corner kick.

Franklin County trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Franklin County scattered multiple scoring opportunities throughout the second half, but the Raiders continually held them off the board to seal the one-goal loss.

With the loss, Franklin County moved to 7-6 on the season and 4-2 in district play.

Franklin County 3, Lincoln County 1

The FCHS boys soccer team beat the Lincoln County Falcons 3-1 on the road on April 16 for the team’s seventh win of the season.

Franklin County took the lead late in the first half and pulled away after halftime as the program recorded its fifth win in six games.

The first goal of the day came in the final minutes of the first half as Edber Perez scored off of an assist from Giovanni Mendez to give Franklin County a 1-0 advantage. It was the 10th goal of the season for Perez.

Franklin County’s lead doubled about 11 minutes into the second half as Alex Domincio scored after receiving a pass from Perez to make it a 2-0 game. It was the first goal of the season for Domincio.

Franklin County pushed the deficit up to 3-0 a few minutes later as Garrett Thompson received a corner kick from Giovanni Mendez and volleyed a shot into the net for his first goal of the year.

The Falcons recorded a goal with about 12 minutes remaining to cut the deficit down to 3-1, but Franklin County prevented them from scoring again with goalkeeper Troy McEwan making several big saves late to clinch the two-goal victory.

With the win, Franklin County improved to 7-5 on the season and 4-1 in district play.

Tullahoma 6, Franklin County 2

The FCHS boys soccer team lost to the Tullahoma Wildcats 6-2 on the road on April 14 for the team’s fifth loss of the season.

Most of the goals for the contest were scored in the first half as Franklin County wasn’t able to overcome a sizable early deficit.

Franklin County head soccer coach Kent Bean said that his team got off to a poor start in the contest that was difficult to recover from.

“We just didn’t come out hard enough in the first half and just laid down and lost all momentum early,” he said. “We gave up four goals on defensive errors, and I think (Tullahoma) really earned one goal. We scored too late, got a little bit of momentum going, but just couldn’t get anything going (afterward).”

Tullahoma took the lead less than 90 seconds into the game as they scored directly off of a corner kick to make it a 1-0 game.

The Wildcats broke through for another goal with 24:07 remaining in the first half, and they scored two more times in the next 10 minutes to push the early deficit up to 4-0.

The Wildcats scored their last goal of the first half with 9:25 remaining in the period to bring their lead up to a peak of 5-0 for the day.

Franklin County got on the board with 2:58 remaining in the first half as a corner kick from Giovanni Mendez deflected between Perez and Tullahoma’s goalkeeper before finding the feet of Harrison Crenshaw, and Crenshaw tapped the ball into the net from there to make it a 5-1 game. It was the second goal of the season for Crenshaw.

Franklin County scored again about a minute later as Perez rolled a low shot into the net after receiving a pass from Gezer Hernandez to cut the deficit down to 5-2. It was the ninth goal of the season for Perez.

Franklin County trailed 5-2 at halftime.

The Wildcats scored their final goal of the day about three minutes into the second half, and Franklin County was held scoreless for the entire period to seal the loss by four.

With the loss, Franklin County moved to 6-5 on the season.

The boys soccer team next played Tuesday at Shelbyville Central High School in a game which came after the Herald Chronicle’s press deadline.
