Middle school Hornets pick up road win versus Fayetteville

The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the Fayetteville Tigers 46-33 on the road Wednesday for their 17th win of the season.
The Hornets pulled ahead late in the second quarter and opened up a double-digit lead in the second half as they steadily outpaced the Tigers for a road victory.
The Tigers got off to a strong start in the game as they built up a slight advantage over the Hornets in the opening period. Micah Tipps scored four of Huntland’s six points in the first quarter.
Huntland trailed 10-6 after one quarter.
The Hornets scored the first six points of the second quarter to take their first lead of the day before the Tigers briefly jumped back in front.
However, the Hornets ended the first half with eight straight points to pull ahead once more going into the halftime break. They led 22-17 at the end of the first half.
The Hornets remained comfortably in front throughout the third quarter as they ended the period on a 9-1 run to bring their lead up to double digits.
They led 34-20 going into the final period.
The Tigers cut the lead down to eight points multiple times early in the fourth quarter, but the Hornets didn’t let them get any closer as they closed out the 13-point win.
Tipps led the Hornets with nine points for the game, followed by Bryant Mooney and Collin Frame with eight points each.
Ellis Stewart and Luke Yarbrough scored six points each, Julius Miller scored five and Brooklyn Reynolds scored four.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 17-1 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at home against Highland Rim Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
