Rebels drop home district matchup to Warren County

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Warren County Pioneers 62-51 at home Tuesday for their 12th loss of the season.

The Rebels trailed for the entire district contest as the Pioneers pulled away in the third quarter and never looked back to give them a loss.

The Rebels were held scoreless for the first five minutes of the game with the Pioneers taking advantage to jump out to an early lead. Kai Baker scored all eight of Franklin County’s points in the first quarter.

Franklin County trailed 17-8 after one quarter.

The deficit was steady for most of the second quarter with the Rebels making up some ground before halftime.

They trailed 30-23 at the end of the first half.

The Rebels made it a two-point game early in the third quarter before the Pioneers scored eight straight to re-establish control of the scoreboard. Kaleb Rigsby scored seven of Franklin County’s eight points in the third quarter.

Franklin County trailed 44-31 going into the final period.

The Rebels put together their best offensive period to close out the game, but it would only be enough to make a small dent in the deficit as they lost by 11.

Baker led the Rebels with 22 points for the game, followed by Rigsby with 11 points and Ethan Stephens with 10.

Sam Vincent scored eight points.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 7-12 on the season and 0-1 in district play.

They will next play Friday at home against Coffee County Central High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
