Rebelettes falter late versus district foe Warren County

The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Warren County Lady Pioneers 50-40 at home Tuesday for their 12th loss of the season.

The Rebelettes held a slight advantage going into the fourth quarter of the district contest, but a lengthy scoring run by the Lady Pioneers to start the final period sealed the loss for Franklin County.

The Lady Pioneers scored the first eight points of the game and held a 12-2 lead midway through the opening period before the Rebelettes answered back with a 10-2 run of their own to tighten the score. Shayla Kennerly scored eight of Franklin County’s 12 points in the first quarter.

Franklin County trailed 14-12 after one quarter.

The Rebelettes did some damage from behind the arc in the second quarter with a pair of 3-pointers from Paislie Edge and a three-point shot from Baylor Russell pacing the Rebelettes to a halftime lead. Edge scored eight of Franklin County’s 11 points in the second quarter.

They led 23-21 at the end of the first half.

The Lady Pioneers tied the score at 28-28 with about 2:30 remaining in the third quarter, but the Rebelettes immediately took the ball down the court and scored on a shot from Russell to retake the lead for the rest of the period.

Franklin County led 30-28 going into the final period.

However, the Lady Pioneers started the fourth quarter with a 19-4 run which was helped along by a barrage of 3-pointers to pull ahead by double digits late, and the Rebelettes weren’t able to respond in the time remaining as they lost by 10.

Kennerly led the Rebelettes with 16 points for the game, followed by Edge with eight points and Russell with seven.

Madison King scored four points, Danica Stovall and Mikah Brannon scored two points each, and Na’Kayjah Holman scored one point.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 7-12 on the season and 0-1 in district play.

They will next play Friday at home against Coffee County Central High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
