Rebels take home district loss to Coffee County

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Coffee County Raiders 60-48 on the road Friday for their 13th loss of the season.

The score was close through the first three quarters, but the Raiders pulled away in the final period of the district contest to give the Rebels their third straight defeat overall.

The teams played an even game throughout the opening period with the Rebels facing a slight deficit early.

They trailed 11-10 after one quarter.

The Rebels briefly grabbed a 17-16 lead midway through the second quarter on a put-back layup by Ethan Stephens, but the Raiders ended the half on an 8-2 run to reclaim the lead.

Franklin County trailed 24-19 at halftime.

A pair of 3-pointers by Kai Baker on consecutive possessions cut the deficit down to a single point at 30-29 with about 3:36 left in the third quarter. However, the Raiders closed out the period with six straight points to secure their advantage.

Franklin County trailed 36-29 going into the final period. Baker scored six of Franklin County’s 10 points in the third quarter.

The Raiders maintained their momentum with a 19-8 run to start the fourth quarter which brought the deficit up to 18 points with about two minutes remaining.

The Rebels did what they could to chip away at the sizable deficit, but they ultimately ran out of time as they lost by 12. Ke’Andre Johnson scored 10 of Franklin County’s 19 points in the fourth quarter.

Johnson and Baker led the Rebels with 10 points each for the game, followed by Kenyon Fuqua with eight points and Sam Vincent with seven.

Stephens scored six points, Kaleb Rigsby scored five and Willie Cobb scored two.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 7-13 on the season and 0-2 in district play.

They will next play Tuesday at Shelbyville Central High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
