Rebelettes finish third in district tourney

The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes 61-49 at Coffee County Friday in the third-place game for the District 6-4A tournament.
The Rebelettes overcame a slight halftime deficit to pull away in the last two quarters as they were able to finish third in the district bracket.
The score was close throughout the opening period with the Golden Eaglettes jumping out to a slight early lead. Madison King scored six of Franklin County’s nine points in the first quarter.
The Rebelettes trailed 10-9 after one quarter.
The Golden Eaglettes maintained a slight advantage in the second quarter with the Rebelettes lurking just a step behind through the end of the first half.
Franklin County trailed 23-20 at halftime.
The teams traded the lead a few times in the third quarter before the Rebelettes ended the period on a 9-1 run to take control.
They led 38-31 going into the final period.
The Rebelettes started the fourth quarter with a 14-5 run fueled by a quartet of 3-pointers to fully pull away as they went on to win by 12. The Rebelettes hit nine 3-pointers as a team in the contest.
Baylor Russell led the Rebelettes with 18 points for the game, followed by King with 12 points and Katie Walker with 11.
Na’Kayjah Holman and Danica Stovall scored eight points each, and Shayla Kennerly scored four points.
Following the conclusion of the game, Walker was named to the all-district team for the season. Russell and Walker were also named to the all-tournament team.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 11-17 on the season.
They will next play Friday on the road in a quarterfinal game for the Region 3-4A tournament. An opponent for the game had not been determined at the time of writing.
