FC boys soccer routs Giles County to close out preseason

The Franklin County High School boys soccer team beat the Giles County Bobcats 7-1 at home Thursday in a preseason scrimmage.
Four different Franklin County players scored in the exhibition contest with three scoring multiple goals for the day.
Rylan Banks, Kevin Hernandez and Cason Eslick contributed two goals each for the offense, and Loui Arellano added a goal to round out the scoring.
The blowout victory capped off a successful preseason for the boys soccer program as the team won all three of its exhibition games while preparing for the start of the 2023 season.
In addition to the victory on March 9, the Franklin County boys soccer team also won on Feb. 18 against St. Andrew’s-Sewanee and on Feb. 28 at Nolensville High School.
Franklin County started the preseason with a 1-0 victory against the St. Andrew’s-Sewanee Mountain Lions.
Banks provided the lone goal of the day for either team with the Franklin County defense and goalkeeper Octavio Martinez maintaining a shutout on the other end of the field.
Franklin County’s second scrimmage against the Nolensville Knights featured more scoring on both sides with Franklin County coming away with the 5-2 win.
Banks recorded a preseason hat trick with a trio of goals, and Hernandez and Eslick scored once each to provide some extra separation.
The FCHS boys soccer team will open its 2023 season on March 17 against Stone Memorial High School as part of the Smoky Mountain Cup in Gatlinburg. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
