Rebelettes take pair of losses to open Southern Warrior Classic

S

The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Mount Juliet Lady Bears 14-1 at McKnight Park in Murfreesboro Friday in their second game for the Southern Warrior Classic.

The Lady Bears scored the first nine runs of the game to put the Rebelettes in a deep hole that they couldn’t work out of for the rest of the day.

The Lady Bears pulled ahead quickly in the contest with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.

The Rebelettes loaded the bases in the top of the second with singles by Leah Henley, Jocilyn DeSmet and Caroline Powers, but they weren’t able to turn the offensive opportunity into any runs.

The Lady Bears continued to build on their early lead with one run in the second inning and six runs in the third to make it a 9-0 game.

The Rebelettes got their lone run in the top of the fourth when Jocilyn DeSmet singled and later came around to score off of an error on a ball hit by Powers.

However, the Lady Bears scored another five runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach as the Rebelettes lost by 13.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 1-6 on the season.

Bryant 14, Rebelettes 0

The Rebelettes began play in the Southern Warrior Classic Friday with a 14-0 loss to the Bryant Hornets at the StarPlex in Murfreesboro.

The Hornets created a major deficit before Franklin County had a chance to bat, and the Rebelettes weren’t able to answer back as they began the event with a loss.

The Hornets sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the first and scored nine runs in the frame to immediately put Franklin County at a massive disadvantage.

The Hornets added another run in the top of the second to bring the early deficit up to an even 10 runs, and a four-run fourth inning brought the lead up to its final margin of 14.

The Rebelettes moved runners into scoring position in the second and fourth innings, but they were unable to scratch a run across in either situation as they were shut out for the contest.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 1-5 on the season.

They will next play Saturday in a continuation of the Southern Warrior Classic. Their first game of the day is scheduled for 2 p.m. at McKnight Park against Hazel Green High School, and they will follow that with a game at 4 p.m. at the StarPlex against White House High School.
