Rebelettes take road district loss to Shelbyville
S
The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes 16-8 on the road Tuesday for their 15th loss of the season.
The Rebelettes jumped out to an early lead in the district contest, but the Golden Eaglettes flipped the scoreboard in the middle innings to give them a loss.
The Rebelettes scored half of their runs in the top of the first as a two-run double by Madi Taylor and a two-run single by Alyssa Sherrill in consecutive at-bats gave them a quick 4-0 advantage.
The Rebelettes tacked on another run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Carissa Montgomery before the Golden Eaglettes scored their first run in the bottom of the second to make it a 5-1 game.
The Rebelettes continued to grow their early lead in the top of the third as an RBI groundout by Miley DeSmet and an RBI single by Emma Owens put the score at 7-1.
However, the Golden Eaglettes scored three runs each in the third and fourth innings to tie the score at 7-7, and they put up another five runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the Rebelettes in a 12-7 hole.
The Rebelettes pushed one more run across in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Sherrill, but a four-run frame by the Golden Eaglettes in the bottom half of the inning put the game out of reach as Franklin County lost by eight.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 2-15 on the season and 0-3 in district play.
They will next play Thursday at home against Warren County High School. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
