Rebels drop road district contest to Warren County

S

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Warren County Pioneers 7-4 on the road Tuesday for their 14th loss of the season.

The Pioneers scored all of their runs in the first two innings, and a late offensive surge by the Rebels wouldn’t be enough to complete a comeback.

The Pioneers’ first six batters of the game reached base, and they scored five total runs in the bottom of the first to immediately put the Rebels in a decent hole.

The Pioneers added another two runs in the bottom of the second to make it a 7-0 game early.

The Rebels were able to load the bases in the top of the fifth on singles by Gavin Sells and Sam Vincent and a walk drawn by Austin Roberts, but a flyout ended the inning before they could get on the board.

The Rebels broke through for their first two runs in the top of the sixth as Josiah Cullins hit an RBI single and Graysen McNeese scored on a wild pitch to put the score at 7-2.

Robert, Brayden Henley and Gus Gardner led off the top of the seventh with consecutive singles to load the bases once again before a strikeout and a popout left the Rebels one out away from a loss.

Cullins and Sells then recorded back-to-back RBI singles to cut into the deficit, but that would be all for Franklin County’s offense as they lost by four.

Casen Gilliam started the game on the mound for the Rebels and exited with three hits and five runs allowed.

Payton Miller followed with two innings pitched in relief with one strikeout, three hits, one earned run and one unearned run allowed.

Cullins pitched the final four innings out of the bullpen with three strikeouts, two hits and no runs allowed.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 11-14 on the season and 4-8 in district play.

They will next play Thursday at Beech High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
