The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Warren County Lady Pioneers 16-12 on the road Tuesday for their 19th loss of the season.
The Rebelettes kept the score close for most of the day, but the Pioneers pulled away in the fifth inning with an ensuing comeback effort by the Rebelettes coming up short to give them a district loss.
The Rebelettes were the first team to score as an RBI single by Jocilyn DeSmet and a sacrifice fly hit by Madi Taylor gave them a 2-0 edge in the top of the first.
However, the Lady Pioneers scored one run in the bottom of the first and four runs in the second to flip the scoreboard in their favor by a 5-2 margin.
The Rebelettes chipped away a portion of the deficit in the top of the third as back-to-back RBI doubles by Taylor and Alyssa Sherrill made it a 5-4 game.
The Lady Pioneers then scored another run in the bottom half of the third to put the score at 6-4.
The score remained there until the top of the fifth when Sherrill crushed a two-run home run over the scoreboard in center field to tie the game at 6-6.
However, the tie would be short-lived as the Lady Pioneers scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to more than double their scoring total for the day and to put the Rebelettes in a 14-6 hole late.
The Rebelettes made up some ground in the top of the sixth as Carissa Montgomery hit a two-run single, and Kaitlyn Montgomery added an RBI single a few batters later to put the deficit at 14-9.
The Lady Pioneers got two of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth as the Rebelettes entered the final frame facing a seven-run deficit.
Destin Milner reached base on an error, Caroline Powers walked and Paislie Edge connected on a bunt single to load the bases to start the seventh inning before an RBI single by Emma Owens and a two-run single by Jocilyn DeSmet brought the deficit down to four runs late.
However, the Rebelettes weren’t able to get another baserunner before the final outs were recorded as they lost by four.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 4-19 on the season and 0-7 in district play.
They will next play Thursday at home against Coffee County Central High School. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
