The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Moore County Raiderettes 6-1 at Eagleville Tuesday in an elimination game for the District 9A tournament.

The Lady Hornets fell behind early in the contest and weren’t able to mount a comeback as their season came to an end with the loss.

The Raiderettes scored three runs in the top of the first with two of those scores coming on a two-out home run following an error that extended the inning.

The Raiderettes capitalized off of another Huntland error to notch a run in the top of the third as the early deficit grew to 4-0.

The Lady Hornets scored their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the third as Hadley Gardner hit a solo home run to left field to make it a 4-1 game.

However, the Raiderettes scored two more times in the top of the fifth to put the Lady Hornets in a five-run hole late.

The Lady Hornets put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh as Blair Finchum singled and advanced to third on an error, but Finchum would be stranded at third as the lone baserunner for the Lady Hornets in the frame as they lost by five.

Isabella Smith recorded the first two outs of the game for the Lady Hornets with one hit, one earned run and two unearned runs allowed.

Kenzie McCowan followed with 3 2-3 innings pitched in relief with three strikeouts, four hits, one earned run and two unearned runs allowed.

Kinah Mason pitched the remaining 2 2-3 innings with one strikeout, two hits and no runs allowed.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets ended their season with a record of 14-10.
