Students awarded Cyber Scholarships 

The Partners in Education Network has awarded full scholarships to two high school students.

Caden Brannon from Huntland School and Christopher Arnold from Franklin County High School were awarded the scholarships and will be spending a week in residence at the U.S Cyber Academy in Huntsville.

The U.S. Cyber Academy is the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s newest program for cyber technologies developed in cooperation with the FBI and Department of Defense.

The PEN Foundation is grateful for funding from Nissan and United Way.

Local student awarded Yates Scholarship

Franklin County High School senior Jenna-Kate Hill has been awarded a $4,000 Yates Companies, Inc. Scholarship for her first two years of college.

Hill was selected by a scholarship committee at The Yates Companies, Inc. based on academics, extracurricular activities and two short essays.

Hill plans to major in communication and minor in business. She is the daughter of Kevin and Amanda Hill. Kevin works for Yates Services, LLC, a part of The Yates Companies, Inc.

Carson-Newman graduates named 

Two local students were among Carson-Newman University’s spring graduates.

Mackenzie Conn of Estill Springs received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and AudreyAna Ragland received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and criminology.

Founded in 1851, Carson-Newman is a Christ-centered, liberal arts-based university affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention.

UT Martin honor roll 

The outstanding academic achievements of undergraduate students at the University of Tennessee at Martin have been honored with publication of the spring 2023 Chancellor’s Honor Rolls.

Earning highest honors was Harley L. Gulley of Belvidere and Drake A. Sizemore of Decherd. Cale E. Emery earned high honors.   

Estill Springs resident earns academic honor 

Brooke Neal of Estill Springs was named to the spring 2023 President’s List at Mississippi College.

To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average, based on a 4.0 system.

Mississippi College, affiliated with the Mississippi Baptist Convention, is a private, co-educational, Christian university of liberal arts and sciences.  

Students win UTSI competition 

Three graduate students recently received awards at the 2023 Wu Student Competition held at the University Tennessee Space Institute.

The annual competition is an open forum for graduate students to present their research in a competition-based format and provides them an opportunity to hone their oral presentation skills while also learning about numerous fields of research.

Award winners were: Michael Stokes, first place; Oriana Palumbo, second place; and Kyle Ackerman, third place. Each award included a travel grant.

UT Knoxville spring dean’s list 

The University of Tennessee recently announced the local dean’s list students for the spring 2023 semester.

Each term, undergraduate students who have completed at least 12 credit hours and have an overall term GPA of 3.5 to 4.0 earn their place on the dean’s list.

Those with a GPA of 3.9 to 4.0 earn summa cum laude status, 3.7 to 3.89 gets magna cum laude accolades and 3.5 to 3.69 receive cum laude marks.
