The 24th annual Molly/Abbie Softball Tournament was held Saturday at the Winchester City Park with 14 teams in action for the day.
The tournament has become an annual tradition which is held in memory of Molly Stewart and Abbie Bondurant, Franklin County High School seniors who passed away in a boating accident in 2000. The event raises money for the FCHS softball team.
The members of the FCHS softball team were involved in the event as they helped to run the concession stands and keep scorebooks for the games. The players were assisted by coaches, parents and other volunteers involved with the program.
The tournament began early in the day with the teams for the event playing three pool games each before being sorted into one of three divisions based on record.
The first champion was crowned in the upper bracket as the Stew Crew beat B+H by a margin of 22-18 in the division’s championship game.
In the middle division, the Beans Creek Billy Goats opened up a big lead early in the finals and wrapped up a 17-2 victory over the Slackers via the mercy rule after three innings.
The championship game for the lower division ended the night on a dramatic high note as BlueLine scored 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off finish to an 18-17 comeback victory over TN Elite.
