The Franklin County volleyball Rebelettes lost to the Fayetteville Lady Tigers in four sets at home Monday in their first match of the season.
The teams split the first two sets with the Lady Tigers claiming the next two frames to give the Rebelettes a loss for the day.
Franklin County head volleyball coach Herb Horton said that his team didn’t play aggressively enough for most of the match.
“We ended up getting not very many attack shots because we were playing passive,” he said. “The second set, I thought we played pretty well. We relaxed (and were) hitting the ball, but the other three, we’ve got to stay in attack mode.”
The Lady Tigers scored the first five points of the opening set before the Rebelettes went on a 12-4 run to take a 12-9 lead at the midway point of the frame.
The teams traded the lead back and forth multiple times throughout the rest of the set with the Rebelettes holding a 23-21 advantage late before the Lady Tigers scored four straight to claim a 25-23 victory.
The Rebelettes took an early lead in the second set and never surrendered it for the rest of the frame as a string of five straight points late closed out a 25-17 win to even the overall score of the match at 1-1.
The third set would be the only one decided by double digits as the Lady Tigers opened up an early lead and built on it throughout the frame for a 25-15 win to retake the overall lead at 2-1.
The teams traded points to start the fourth set with eight ties occurring in the first half of the game, but the Lady Tigers pulled away by scoring eight of the frame’s final nine points to secure a 25-16 set victory and to give the Rebelettes a 3-1 loss for the night.
With the loss, the Rebelettes started the season with a record of 0-1.
They will next play Tuesday at Lawrence County High School. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
