FC girls soccer tops Mt. Juliet in close road matchup

The Franklin County High School girls soccer team beat the Mt. Juliet Bears 3-2 on the road Tuesday for the team’s fourth win of the season.
The teams alternated scoring throughout the day with Franklin County getting the last goal in the final minutes to remain unbeaten in the early portion of the season.
The first goal of the day came about 20 minutes into the game on a shot by Riley Howell for her third score of the year.
The Bears tied the score about five minutes later after breaking through Franklin County’s defense to put the early score at 1-1. It was the first goal allowed by Franklin County this season.
Franklin County pulled back ahead with about two minutes left in the first half as Osiris Rodriguez fired a long shot into the net off an assist from Gracen Baggett. It was the seventh goal of the season for Rodriguez.
Franklin County led 2-1 at halftime.
Franklin County’s defense held onto the lead for most of the second half, but the Bears were able to find an equalizer with 10 minutes remaining to make it a 2-2 game.
Caitlyn Cashion would provide the go-ahead goal for Franklin County with about four minutes to go on a long shot off an assist from Baylor Russell for her first goal of the campaign.
Franklin County held the Bears off the board in the last few minutes as the team secured the win by one.
With the win, Franklin County improved to 4-0 on the season.
The girls soccer team will next play over the weekend at the Smoky Mountain Cup in Gatlinburg. The team’s first game for the tournament is scheduled for Friday at 6:10 p.m. Eastern against White House High School.
